AUDITIONS
TRACK E
Roles: French Taunter | Herbert's Guard 1 | Sir Bors | Minstrel 2
FRENCH TAUNTER
Role Function: Smarmy, Arrogant Antagonist.
Scenes / Moments: Act 1, Scene 11
Energy / Comedy Style: Outrageously Cliché Frenchman, Highly overpronounced words almost at random.
Voice / Movement: French accent, not strictly a realistic one at that. Needs to be clear enough to understand though. These lines are gold, don’t bury them.
Key Tasks / Notes: Make sure the script is delivered with enough clarity to let it shine.
HERBERT'S GUARD 1
Role Function: Simple working-class guard
Scenes / Moments: Act 2, Scene 8
Energy / Comedy Style: Lackadaisical, carefree and casual
Voice / Movement: Simple, cockney
Key Tasks / Notes: Simple, easy, stay here and don’t let Herbert leave UNTIL Father comes back.
SIR BORS
Role Function: A simple Knight, rolls up his sleeve and gets the job done.
Scenes / Moments: Act 2, Scene 10
Energy / Comedy Style: Casual working man, confidently approaching a job that quickly dies a dramatic death.
Voice / Movement: Confident, Casual, foreshadowing a contrastingly bloody and violent death
Key Tasks / Notes: A quick one-and-done role, he rocks up and confidently approaches a rabbit and dies violently.
MINSTREL 2
Role Function: Cheery and dedicated band member singing Robin’s praises, delighting in his shortcomings
Scenes / Moments: Act 2, Scene 3, Act 2, Scene 5, Act 2, Scene 11
Energy / Comedy Style: Floaty and airy, jolly and jubilant
Voice / Movement: Poetic and reverent.
Key Tasks / Notes: The minstrels are all similarly styled, they should feel almost like clones or a band of identical chorus members that bleed into one character.
AUDITION TIPS: This does not need to be a “good” accent. It can be cartoonish, over the top, silly and hammy – but it DOES need to be clear and understandable. Clarity is going to be really important here because he frankly has some of the best lines in the show.
