WONTHAGGI THEATRICAL GROUP
AUDITIONS
TRACK D
Roles: Black Knight | Herbert's Guard 2 | Tim the Enchanter
BLACK KNIGHT
Role Function: Impossibly stoic and unmoving juggernaut
Scenes / Moments: Act 2, Scene 3, Act 2, Scene 4
Energy / Comedy Style: He begins slow and deliberate, but gradually becomes more manic and frantic as he suffers his various flesh wounds.
Voice / Movement: Begin resolute and determined, with cold certainty and harsh stoic tones, gradually move toward desperately aggressive and pathetic.
Key Tasks / Notes: One of the most complex practical scenes we have, this is a demanding role that requires physical timing, comic timing and a strong voice.
HERBERT'S GUARD 2
Role Function: Simple working class guard
Scenes / Moments: Act 2, Scene 8
Energy / Comedy Style: Lackadaisical, carefree and casual
Voice / Movement: Simple, cockney
Key Tasks / Notes: Simple, easy, stay here and don’t let Herbert leave UNTIL Father comes back.
TIM THE ENCHANTER
Role Function: Eldritch sorcerer and mystic/Scottish weirdo.
Scenes / Moments: Act 2, Scene 10, Act 2, Scene 11
Energy / Comedy Style: Intense and Shakespearian style intense dramatique. Devolves into Scottish Soccer hooligan when challenged
Voice / Movement: Thunderous voice with booming Scottish accent, he is intense and theatrical. Movement wise he is swift and deliberate.
Key Tasks / Notes: Much like Black Knight, this is a demanding role on the voice. It requires dramatic intensity.
AUDITION TIPS: The voice is the most important thing here. Strong. Commanding. Definite. The physicality will be largely hampered by whatever costume we put you in, so focus primarily on the vocal delivery.
As theatrically as you can deliver Tim’s lines: go for it. Spit ‘em out. Tim’s comedy isn’t in his physicality. He’s a relatively still character. But verbally and vocally he’s a hurricane, play with that.
