WONTHAGGI THEATRICAL GROUP
AUDITIONS
TRACK B
Roles: Ni Knight Leader | Concorde | Herbert's Father
NI KNIGHT LEADER
Role Function: Theatrical leader of a strange cult, eccentric and threatening with camp menace
Scenes / Moments: Act 2 Scene 2, Act 2 Scene 5
Energy / Comedy Style: Moves very little beyond his head, his intensity comes from his stillness and his eyes.
Voice / Movement: Eccentric, high-pitched, flamboyant.
Key Tasks / Notes: To play what is obviously a very silly role with absolute menace and intensity, dripping with British civility and manners.
CONCORDE
Role Function: Lancelot’s Patsy, his loyal sidekick and grammar corrector.
Scenes / Moments: Act 2, Scene 6, Act 2, Scene 8
Energy / Comedy Style: Sincere and earnest, determined, ferociously loyal, but also a patient educator.
Voice / Movement: Noble, refined, almost fanciful.
Key Tasks / Notes: To highlight Lance’s lack of intelligence, even while dying. The comedy lies in that contradiction that he’s so dedicated to his liege that he’s actually helping him even while bleeding out.
HERBERT'S FATHER
Role Function: Emblematic of a problematic patriarchal societal role, he’s a disapproving father.
Scenes / Moments: Act 2, Scene 8, Act 2, Scene 11
Energy / Comedy Style: Stoic, staunch, aggressive, outraged.
Voice / Movement: Large and deliberate steps with a loud and aggressively manly voice. Northern English.
Key Tasks / Notes: A sharp contrast to Herbert, his disapproval manifests in short outbursts particularly when someone sings.
AUDITION TIPS: In many ways he’s able to borrow a lot from movie villains and psychopathic killers. Try to emulate that with his eyes and mouth while employing that very silly voice. Really ham it up
Think Angry Hagrid. He’s a loud, broad-shouldered and rather pig-headed man, Controlled and articulated expressions of that anger will be better than broad sweeping gestures. It’s very easy to go too hammy here.
